Learn About Our Programs

American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) is committed to providing a player pathway which places each player in a developmentally appropriate environment.

Our pathway begins with our AYSO Kickstart Soccer program designed to introduce families and children to the physical literacy requirement to play soccer.

Our players then progress into our AYSO Core program where our tremendous volunteers create a fun, energetic playing experience that allows players to thrive in the game of soccer.

Our next progression is “EXTRA” which is a tryout-based program designed for the player looking for a challenging environment in which there is a great emphasis on Technical and Tactical Development while playing within the AYSO System.

The final phase of our youth pathway invites all players to tryout for the United Club Program (Year-Round) where the players are exposed to the challenges of club soccer with a higher commitment level required, greater travel times and a detailed focus on Technical and Tactical proficiency.

Canajoharie AYSO currently does not offer Extra or United Club Programs.

Our objective is to create an environment where each player has the opportunity to excel and reach their potential no matter if their goal is to play at the highest level, college, high-school or just to have fun!

Registration Age Breakdown

Registration Age Breakdown

AYSO uses a school-year age matrix with an August 1 cutoff to determine player divisions, aligning with U.S. Soccer and other major youth soccer organizations. Under this model, a player’s division is based on their age during the school-year timeframe of August 1 through July 31. Canajoharie AYSO recognizes that our school-year timeframe has a cutoff date of November 30th. For any players whose birthday falls between August 1st and November 30th, we will have all parents sign a form to move them to their correct grade based division. However, you must be 3 by July 31, 2026.

Canajoharie AYSO does not offer 13U and up programs.

For Example: A player who is 5 years old on August 1 will play in the 6U division for that Fall season.

This age group cutoff aligns soccer age groups with school-year peers, helping more players participate and stay in the game with their classmates and friends. To help determine the appropriate division for your child, please refer to the age chart above, which follows U.S. Soccer school-year guidelines. AYSO Kickstart Program

This is the beginning of your child’s soccer journey — and you get to be part of every step along the way.

AYSO Kickstart is AYSO’s entry-level soccer experience designed to reimagine early play environments, spark joy, boost development, and help kids fall in love with the game from day one.

Grounded in years of sport and early-childhood research, Kickstart transforms traditional practice into child-centered play. Sessions feature fun, fast-moving activities and modified small-sided games that create a lively, sandlot-style jamboree experience.

Kickstart is typically offered for the youngest and first-time players and serves as the first step in the AYSO player pathway.

AYSO Core Program

The AYSO Core Program is another name for AYSO’s Primary program, which is home to the majority of our players and spans from 6U – 19U divisions. With our Philosophies laced throughout, our Core Program is the nation’s leading grassroots soccer program.

Canajoharie AYSO Region 1015 focuses on 6U-12U divisions.

What is AYSO Core?

Our Grassroots program is the foundation for all the fun, excitement, and learning that happens on the fields! We have developed our soccer program to be age-appropriate and developmentally challenging based on our Six Philosophies, which are the essence of AYSO’s Mission and Vision and guide all that we do.

  • Everyone Plays(R)
  • Balanced Teams
  • Open Registration
  • Positive Coaching
  • Good Sportsmanship
  • Player Development

What does “Everyone Plays®” mean?

In AYSO, Everyone Plays(R) means that no child spends their soccer experience sitting on the bench. Every child plays at least half of every game.

What are “Balanced Teams”?

In AYSO, teams are balanced to make playing soccer about the experience, not wins or losses. This way, we teach children about good sportsmanship and learning to be the best possible teammate and opponent. By focusing on player development over winning, AYSO is truly child-first and child-focused. This approach makes AYSO one of the finest player development programs dedicated to youth athletics and creating happy, healthy kids.
